This website is called Poetry for People Who Wonder About Poetry because that's who I'm writing for — and honestly, who I've always been. You don't need a graduate degree to feel what a poem is doing. You just need to be paying attention. My poems try to meet you where you are: in the parking lot, at the breakfast table, at the graveside, on the balcony. They're about family, friendship, desire, loss, and the gap between who we were and who we needed to become. They're also, occasionally, about anal fissures and oxycodone in a finance class. That's the range.

If you've always been curious about poetry but found it remote or intimidating, I hope what you find here changes that. Poetry at its best isn't abstract. It's the most precise language we have for the things that matter most.

Welcome.

I recently completed an MFA in poetry from Bennington College. My work has appeared in Penumbra, Connections, Sky Island Journal, and The Cincinnati Enquirer. I live in Maryland with my wife and three sons, and I volunteer as a ski patroller in Pennsylvania, which is either a metaphor or just something I love to do.
